Katie Frey graduated from Walla Walla University with an English and Art degree in 2007 and worked as a teacher for years before deciding to step into the unknown and begin art as a full time career. Her artistic passion is painting, and she works primarily in acrylics and watercolors painting animals and landscapes with abstract elements and colors. She lives in Spokane, WA where she offers painting classes and workshops through the Corbin Art Center and Spokane’s Community College’s Act2 Program.
Artist Statement: All my energy and my happiness goes into my art. I paint with bright colors and expressive lines. The animals and landscapes are broken up with spontaneous dots of color, black lines, color blocks and patterns. The subject matter is planned, but everything else is intuitive. As an avid hiker, backpacker, and paddle boarder, I am inspired by my time spent in nature, by the textures and patterns of rocks and plants, and both the ease and energy of wild animals. I want my art to be warm and invigorating; to look as spontaneous and joyful as it feels when I create it.
